Rough Magic's work in 2005 has received four nominations for the prestigious Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards which acknowledge excellence in all areas of Irish theatre including acting, writing, directing and design.
Rough Magic's production of The Sugar Wife, which was produced at Project Arts Centre in April 2005, has been nominated for two awards: Best New Play (Elizabeth Kuti) and Best Set Design (Paul Keogan - Paul is also nominated for his work on B*poke's production of Tejas Verdes). The Sugar Wife, which has also been nominated for the Susan Smith Blackburn Award, transfers to the Soho Theatre, London for a four week run from January 19th.
Rupert Murray has been nominated in the Best Lighting Design category for his work on Rough Magic's production of The Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht in a new version by Howard Brenton. The Life of Galileo was performed at Project Arts Centre in February/March 2005.
And the Rough Magic SEEDS II Showcase presentations during the 2005 Dublin Fringe Festival have been nominated for a Judges' Special Award. The SEEDS II Showcase featuring three fringe productions and three rehearsd readings from emerging theatre directors and playwrights.
The winners will be announced at a gala reception on February 18th.
