The core of Rough Magic's work is the development and production of new plays. Since first producing new Irish work in the late eighties, the company has maintained a slate of ongoing commissions, which feed into the production programme at regular intervals.
All commissions receive dramaturgical support from our Literary Manager, and private workshops and readings where this is helpful for the writers.
Our Literary Department - comprised of Literary Manager Maureen White and a team of freelance script-readers - also processes unsolicited scripts, with the aim not just of finding gems for future production but of providing each and every writer with constructive feedback on his or her work.
Artists' development is a stated priority for Rough Magic and the company has organised four playwrighting development initiatives including SEEDS, SEEDS II, SEEDS 3, the recently launched AIB Seeds and the 1992 Women's Writing Initiative.
